Ian Keable read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University where he obtained a first class degree. He joined Price Waterhouse Coopers and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Seven years later, after a successful career in finance, he changed direction completely and became a magician!

In this humorous presentation, Ian describes how and why he made the transition from a secure livelihood to the uncertain world of a self-employed entertainer. With a school record and degree that any student would be proud of, and a successful career that perhaps many only dream of, Ian shows how academics needn't hinder you in the pursuit of other dreams and aspirations.

Included in this talk are many practical pieces of advice. Ian reflects on the importance of a University education, even if you have an essentially unconventional occupation in mind; he shares advice on choosing a job, particularly if you do not know what you want to do; and offers ideas about how to make money, and maybe even a living, from your hobby.

Interspersed with the invaluable and inspirational guidance, Ian performs many tricks from his professional repertoire. Some of these are especially interesting for pupils studying psychology, critical thinking, drama and theatre studies as they touch upon aspects of these subjects. Others are just unapologetically entertaining!
